Second Look Legislation in Virginia

We created a policy memo advocating for Senate Bill 842 in Virginia, working with the group Sistas in Prison Reform. SB842 would offer sentence reconsideration to individuals who have served 15 years or more of a felony sentence and could generate a 182-person decrease in the prison population. We estimated the five-year impact of the bill, with our projections predicting a $19M in labor sector growth through wages earned by returned citizens and $8.2M in growth concentrated in the communities impacted most significantly by incarceration.
